Finding Lost AirPods If They Are Offline or Dead. Possible?

Losing your airpods can be a huge pain, especially if they’re offline or dead. If you’ve ever lost your airpods, you know how frustrating it can be to try and find them. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips on how to find your lost airpods when they’re offline or dead.

Using “Find My” Network, It Might work, But…

If Airpods run out of battery, you will only be able to see their “last known location” using the Find My App. It means that from the point in time the battery run out, the Find My App stopped tracking their location.

What can you do to prevent losing them?

There are a few things you can do to prevent losing your airpods in the first place.

Activate “Left Behind” Alerts

The Find My app has a feature called “Left Behind” alerts that can notify you if one of your Airpods is placed away from the iOS device it’s paired with.

To turn on Left Behind alerts:

1 – Open the Find My app and tap the Devices tab.

2 – Select “Notify When Left Behind”.

3 – Toggle the switch next to “Notify When Left Behind” to the green position.

Now you’ll get an alert on your iOS device if an Airpod is left behind. You can set up exemptions such as your home or office so you don’t get alerts when you’re not expecting to.

Of course, this won’t work if the Airpods are out of battery, but at least you’ll know if you left them somewhere.

Checking their “Last Known Position”

If you’ve misplaced your AirPods and they don’t have a battery, and they’re offline, checking their last position will be your best shot at finding them. Because you won’t be able to utilize “Find My” if they’re offline, but you might be able to obtain directions to the area where they were last connected.

Here’s what you need to do to find their last location:

  • Open “Find my” app on iPhone, iPad or Mac
  • Make sure you’re on the “Devices” tab, as you can also use the app to track people or items.
  • Click on the AirPods device showing on the list.
  • The map will show their last location.

If some time has passed since they’ve been powered, AirPods will show a message saying “Offline”. If this is the case, there won’t be many good approaches to find them. Suppose no location data for the AirPods is available and you are unable to locate them after searching manually. In that case, the only option is usually to purchase a new AirPod or pair.

When can you use the “Find My” app?

The AirPods can only be tracked and found using the “Find my” app when they are outside their cases and have not yet run out of battery power.

A connection to the AirPods using Bluetooth is required to use the “Find my” network; otherwise, you won’t know their last location. If the AirPods are dead, there won’t be a Bluetooth connection and, therefore, no way to track them.

Tracking AirPods individually (left and right earbud) is possible, so in situations when one of them still has some charge, you might find the other one if they’re still close to each other. Likewise, if one or both had some charge a short time ago, the app may present you with their last known location.

AirPods Battery Life: How Long Do They Last?

The battery life of an average fully charged pair is 24 hours (listening time) for Airpods 2nd Gen and Pro models and 30 hours for the 3rd Gen model.

Can you play a sound to locate them?

You can play a sound to locate them when they’re out of their case and powered, but this option won’t be available when they run out of battery.
