How To Remove Split View On iPad

Apple’s iPads are getting more capable than ever. The Cupertino firm has positioned its iPad Pro lineup as a laptop replacement since its day one, providing users with more options to boost their productivity.

What makes the iPad a laptop alternative is Split View, one of the iPad’s many Multitasking features that allow you to use two apps at once side-by-side. If you are new to the iPad, the process of using Split View is a little bit unknown to many folks.

With that in mind, we will show you how to turn on and remove Split View on your iPad.

First, Which iPad models support multitasking with Split View and Slide Over?

Split View is a cool feature that lets you use two apps at once on your iPad. However, it does not support all iPad models. Here is the list of the supported iPads:

  • iPad (5th gen or later)
  • iPad Air 2 or later.
  • iPad Mini 4 or newer.

How to Enable Split View On Your iPad

Step 1: Make sure that you have at least one of the apps you want to use with Split View is now in your Dock. To do so, simply open that app, close it, and it should show up in your Dock as one of the most recently-used apps.

Step 2: Now launch the other app you wish to use with Split View and make sure you keep it open.

Step 3: Perform a slight swipe-up from the bottom of the screen to trigger the Dock. From here, tap and hold the app in the Dock, and then drag it all the way to the edge of the screen and release.

Step 4: When Split View is enabled, you can use the divider bar between them to adjust the screen space.

Note: If you drag the app icon out of the Dock and let it go in the middle of the screen, it will show up in a small window that floats on your screen. This is another Multitasking feature called Slide Over.

Open three apps at once

Slide Over can work on the top of Split View. In other ways, you can open three apps at the same time. To do it, from the Split View screen, tap and hold an app, and drag it to the divider bar to open it in a small window.

How to Remove Split View on your iPad

If you have two apps open side by side, you can easily remove Split View and go back to the standard view. Here are the steps:

Step 1: From the Split View screen, drag the divider bar all the way to the right or left of the screen to close one app.

Step 2: The other app will open in a full screen mode

Alternatively, you can close the Split View mode by using the three dots “…” button at the top of each app. Select the app you want to close, tap on the three dots button and select the full-screen mode to the left.

How to Disable Split View Entirely on your iPad

If you no longer use Split View, you can turn it off completely. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Launch the Settings app and then tap General.

Step 2: Now select Multitasking & Dock from the list and then turn off the switch next to Allow Multiple Apps.

Step 3: Once you are done, Split View is permanently turned off on your iPad. To turn it back on, repeat the above steps and turn on the switch.
