The wait last no longer: The new iPhone 12 will be released very soon!!.
In the last Time Flies event on September 15th, Apple did not release the new iPhone 12 as several rumors predicted before. This has upset the iFan a little bit but it is. However, Apple has once again invited their fan and customers to a new event on Tuesday, October 13th. This event has the name “Hi, Speed” and it is likely to be hosted online like the prior WWDC and Time Flies event. And it is a very BIG CHANCE that Apple will introduce its new iPhone. The hype among fans is once again going over the roof. So what can we expect from the upcoming iPhone 12? Here are what we know.
All sources so far as well as leaked images show that the iPhone 12 series will return to the iPhone 4 era design. It will have a flat, two glass sides, stainless steel edges instead of curved edges design. This design is also quite similar to the design of the new iPad Pro and iPad Air 4 released in the Time Flies event recently. The iPhone 12 will be thinner, at around 7.4 mm, while the iPhone 11 Pro Max is 8.1 mm.
There will probably be up to 4 different iPhone versions including two versions with the same screen size:
- 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro
- 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max
So this may be the first time that we will get a Mini version of the iPhone. This version is Apple’s effort to make its products more accessible to low-income customers. In addition, there may be differences in the camera design between the versions. The Mini and Standard versions will have two camera lenses. The Pro and Pro Max version will be with three camera lenses.
The newest desirable feature in iPhone 12 is the unlimited display. It means that the notch in the previous version now will be reduced. In the new design, the front camera system called the TrueDepth camera system will stay hidden below the screen. Apple may also implement a smaller notch by integrating the front speaker for the device into the bezel. However, this feature may only appear in the more expensive versions.
All the new 2020 iPhone will have OLED display technology regardless of price. For the past few years, Apple has only equipped OLED screens for the high-end versions, but this year it seems Apple is looking to add other OLED screen suppliers to equip the entire iPhone 12 lineup. The Pro series will likely use Samsung OLED displays with more premium specifications, while the two lower versions will likely use OLED screens from other manufacturers.
Even though there are several rumors that the Pro and Pro Max version will have a 120Hz “ProMotion” screen, it is not likely to happen due to battery life issues. Instead, Apple could reserve this technology behind for next year iPhone with a low-power-consuming LTPO display.
There is information that the FaceID feature will also be replaced by the fingerprint scanner if Apple truly succeeds in the new design. Many fans have doubts about removing the notch on the iPhone 12 as well as replacing FaceID with TouchID. While Apple’s intention to bring TouchID back has been a long time ago, many tech lovers hope that FaceID and TouchID can work together and support each other, increasing the security of the iPhone many times.
Apple will supposedly launch a new color, Navy Blue, to succeeding the successful Midnight-Green of iPhone 11. This color may be quite similar to the blue color of the current Apple Watch Series 6. However, it seems like Navy Blue may be only available to the Pro and Pro Max lines.
There is also information about the potential rainbow of colors that may appear on the standard model including pink, purple, white, orange, green, black, red, and blue. If you take a look at Apple’s invitation for the new event, the light blue and light orange colors will be available for the new iPhone 12
In 2020, Apple will return to cooperate with Qualcomm to bring 5G connectivity to the new iPhone through the Snapdragon X55 Modem. Qualcomm will equip the X55 modem chip for all four versions of the iPhone 12. The X55 chip offers 7Gb/s peak download speeds and 3Gb/s upload speeds. However, the actual speeds will depend on the actual user’s network. The chip is Qualcomm’s first 5G chip that supports all major frequency bands, operation modes, and network deployments. The 5G connectivity will come in two categories: mmWave (faster but limited in range), and sub-6GHz (slower but with a wider range).
As other competitors such as Samsung or Google are also introducing their 5G smartphone to the market, having this feature one the new iPhone line up is a good choice from Apple
Cameras and LiDar Scanner
Both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro have recently been rated as one of the best camera phones on the market. This is thanks to the excellent night mode and next-gen Smart HDR. The iPhone 11 features a wide-angle and standard wide-angle lens, while the iPhone 11 Pro has a telephoto zoom. The standard iPhone 12 model is expected to use the same 2-lens setup as the iPhone 11. With the iPhone 12 Pro / Pro Max, they will have a 3-lens camera system and a new LiDAR scanner. The LiDAR scanner that first appeared on the iPad Pro 2020 offers a better AR experience, the ability to accurately measure location in space.
Several analysts predict that the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will feature 6GB RAM, up from 4GB on their predecessors. On the other hand, the standard iPhone 12 will most likely stick with 4GB RAM.
iPhone 12 is expected to use the A14 chipset. The A14 Bionic was released with the iPad Air 4, which according to Apple claims the new processor for about 16% faster CPU performance and about 8% faster GPU than the A13. But with the leaked benchmark information, the GPU performance can be much higher, even higher than the A12Z on the iPad Pro.
There is also some information that iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will have 128GB and 256GB storage models. And the Pro and Pro Max will come in both of those and 512GB. Other leakers claim that the standard iPhone 12 will start at 64GB storage minimum and the higher models will start at 128 GB minimum.
While the 5G feature is currently very much appreciated by users, the downside is its significant battery drain. To compensate for this, the iPhone 12 Pro is claimed to have a 10% larger battery than the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Its battery will have a capacity of 4,400 mAh, which will be a great upgrade. This is necessary as the iPhone 12 Pro series support 5G and Full OLED display. These features consume a lot of battery. For comparison, the iPhone 11 Pro has a 3.46 mAh battery, while the largest iPhone 11 Pro Max also has a 3,969 mAh battery.
Different rumors intend that Apple will not include a power adapter or EarPods in the box with the iPhone 12 lines. The reasons for this to cut down on production costs and packaging. However, Apple may offer a 20W power adapter that can be bought separately. Rumors also indicating that Apple plans to offer a new braided cable design. This is similar to the design of the Apple Watch Series 6 strap. There may be a Lightning port on the new iPhone, with Apple continuing to use Lightning instead of swapping over to USB-C.
The price of the iPhone 12 is said to start at $ 649, for an iPhone with an OLED screen this is an unprecedented price. Specifically, the rumored price of the versions is as follows:
- iPhone 12 mini: starting at $649
- iPhone 12: starting at $749
- IPhone 12 Pro: starts at $999
- IPhone 12 Pro Max: starting at $1,099
There will be several new features to expect in the new iPhone 12 including new designs, new colors, and specs. However, all the information we have now is just from leaks and rumors. Currently, there is no specific information about the new features that the iPhone 12 will provide. Apple can bring many surprises as well as many other products besides the new iPhone. Don’t forget to follow the event that will happen on October 13th.
