If you are a professional runners or skiers, knowing precise GPS coordinates can be extremely helpful, as it allows you to navigate and find your way in unfamiliar terrain or send a rescue signal to authorities in case of emergency.
If you are now using an iPhone, you will be happy to know that your iPhone includes a built-in GPS device that helps you get exact GPS coordinates, eliminating the need for a third-party app to be installed on your device.
In this tutorial, we will show you how you can get GPS coordinates on your iPhone. Before we begin, we are going to use native applications on iOS with no additional downloads required and GPS coordinates will show up in DMS format.
Steps to show GPS coordinates on your iPhone
Step one: First off, you need to launch the Settings app on your iPhone. After that, scroll down a little bit and tap on Privacy
Step two: Next up, select Location Services and you simply need to toggle on the switch next to Location Services
Step three: Navigate to the bottom of the Location Services page. After that, you now need to allow Compass app access to your location data
Step four: Head back to your home screen and launch the Compass app. Once you are on, adjust the compass if you have to and then wait a few minutes for the app to determine the current location
Step five: Navigate to the bottom of the app and you will find the GPS coordinates in DMS. If you want to get the GPS coordinates, you simply need to copy coordinates as usual and paste it into anywhere you want like Notes app or Messages. Besides, you can copy the coordinates into the Maps app to match them to a location.
That’s it! Note that the Compass app doesn’t allow you to save or share coordinates. If you want to share your current location, you can do this using Messages app on your iPhone.
