The best tips and tricks for OnePlus 6

OnePlus is one of the biggest names in the smartphone industry. The Chinese firm has gained its popularity among users and tech experts, thanks to its amazing phones. In May, the Chinese smartphone maker officially announced OnePlus 6, the successor to the 5T flagship phone.

When it comes to the OnePlus 5T, the device was a great success, with millions of units sold on the market. The OnePlus 6 is not a huge leap over the 5T, but it still has a lot of new things that are worth your upgrade, ranging from new design to solid camera.

The OnePlus 6 serves as the company’s strategic plan to compete with Apple’s iPhone models and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9. It still remains what Apple and Samsung will include on their phones. However, we are pretty sure that OnePlus is having their upper hand on the market this year.

If you just got a OnePlus 6, then some of its best features may not be straightforward or even hidden from your sight. With that in mind, we are here to help.

In this article, we have created a list of the best tips and tricks for your OnePlus 6 phone. For some background, OnePlus 6 has been available on the market since May 22 for $529 for the basic 64 GB model.

  1. Enable or disable notch

The OnePlus 6 features a notch at the top of the display, allowing users to quickly check new notifications and time/date. In reality, a top-notch is not something new out there, as we have already seen it on the Apple iPhone X.

Sources say that the launch of Apple iPhone X will boost the adoption of top-notch among Android devices. However, if you don’t like the notch, then you can quickly disable it on your OnePlus 6. In reality, the OnePlus 6 allows you to quickly enable or disable top notch without the need for a third-party app.

To disable top notch on your OnePlus 6, you need to open the Settings app, then select Display, and hit Notch Display. Now just simply enable or disable the notch on your device.

  1. Gestures

With OnePlus 6, the company removed the physical buttons in favor of a stunning display. The removal of physical buttons leads to the introduction of navigation gestures. In reality, OnePlus 6 gives you a lot of gestures that help you better control your phone.

However, gesture navigation is not enabled by default on your phone, meaning that you need to activate it. To do this, launch the Settings app on your phone, then select Buttons and hit Navigation bar & Gestures. Once you are in, tap on Navigation gestures on your phone. From now on, you can use gestures to replace your navigation bar.

To go to home screen, you simply swipe up from the center of the screen. A swipe up from the left or right will take you back to what you were doing earlier.

  1. Gaming mode

The OnePlus 6 serves as a perfect tool for playing games, thanks to its powerful hardware and stunning display. OnePlus is fully aware of that and the company added a dedicated gaming mode.

In reality, gaming mode is not something new out there, as it has been an essential part of Samsung-branded phones or Microsoft Windows 10. The gaming mode on the OnePlus 6 frees up RAM to boost gaming performance on your phone. The mode also includes a built-in Network Boost that reduces the ping while playing online with your friends.

To turn on gaming mode, open the Settings app, then select Advanced, and hit Gaming mode. Once you are in, tap on Add apps for gaming mode and then select all the apps you wish to enable gaming mode for.

  1. Reading mode

If you love reading books on your smartphone, then give OnePlus 6 a try. With OnePlus 6, the company introduced a new Reading mode that changes the screen color to match the environment around you.

To enable Reading mode on your OnePlus 6, open the Settings app on your phone, then select Display and hit Reading mode. Once you are in, you simply need to turn on the switch for Turn on Reading Mode.

  1. App Locker

Smartphone brands are adding new features to their phones to improve security and privacy. With OnePlus 6, the company has a handy feature called App Locker that allows you to secure your apps. To enable it, head to Settings, then tap Security & lock screen and select App Locker. Once you are in, you simply add apps to the App Locker list.
