iPhone Speaker is Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It

Your iPhone speaker suddenly stops working? No worry, we’ve several possible solutions to your problems here. Read on to know what to do when your iPhone speaker is not working.

Disconnect Bluetooth Devices

Actually, most users tend to forget to disable Bluetooth on their devices when they no longer use it. And, when that function is still on, iPhones will automatically reconnect to an external speaker and play sounds on it. So, we suggest you turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone and then see if it works.

Check your Sound Settings

Follow the below steps to check the Sound on your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Choose Sounds
  3. Here, move the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times to check if the speaker is working or not.

Also, you should go to Control Center and make sure that the “Do Not Disturb” mode is off. To do this, swipe the bottom of the screen towards the top to access the Control Center. Then, tap on the moon icon to turn it off.

Switch to Custom Ringtone

If your iPhone is not making any sound during incoming calls, you can change the default system ringtone to see if that helps. Follow these steps to do it:

  1. Open Settings select Sounds.
  2. Tap Ringtone
  3. Then, you’ll see all of your default ringtones below.
  4. Play a ringtone.

The fact that you try making a call with your iPhone is also a good idea in this situation. If you still can’t hear anything, then your network could be the issue here. Repeat the process to see if the problem is fixed. If not, read on.

Clean your iPhone Speaker

Dust may have accumulated inside your iPhone speaker grille and blocked its sound output. Now, remove any case or protector from your device. Check the speaker opening to see if there is dirt or anything else blocking it. Next, use a dry cloth, a cotton swab, or a toothpick with blunt edges to clean the grille. Gently brush across the speaker from bottom to top several times, then test your iPhone sound quality again.

Restart Your iPhone

One of the best solutions for most problems is to simply restart your device.

How to restart your iPhone:

  1. Press and hold the side button (or holding either volume button and the side button on iPhone X, 11, and 12) until the power off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait for your device to turn off.
  3. Then, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) to turn it on again.

Alternatively, if you haven’t updated your iPhone in quite a while, try updating to the latest iOS to see if it fixes the problem.

Check the Mute Switch and Volume

It is entirely possible that you’ve put the phone on silent using the mute switch. So, if your iPhone’s speaker is suddenly not working, you should check the mute switch first. Also, try increasing to max volume as well.

If your iPhone speaker is still not working after trying the above solutions, the only option left is to go to the nearest Apple Store or authorized service partner now.
