iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix

Got a problem with iOS 14? We’ve got you covered. Stick with us while we take a look at the most common problems with iOS 14 and how to fix them

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #1 – Widgets Not Working

iOS 14 launched in September 2020, but it was not without its problems. Some of these are still around today, according to users. One of the most welcome new features was the ability to add custom widgets to your home screen. Widgets can give you information about your apps, but if you’re experiencing this common problem, you may find they do not always work properly.

The problem is most common with non-Apple widgets, which some users say they are unable to edit or add. An easy workaround for this is to open the app first before using the widget itself.

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #2 – Can’t Download iOS 14

Although Apple’s latest update has been rolled out for a few months now, you may not have it installed if you buy a second-hand phone, or perhaps you are yet to download it. If you are having trouble downloading iOS 14, it is likely because it is not compatible with your device.

Devices that support iOS 14 are as follows:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st gen)
  • iPhone SE (2nd gen)

If you don’t see your model number on this list, then unfortunately your phone is not compatible with iOS 14. Although disappointing, it’s worth noting that Android devices usually only receive supported software updates for two to three years tops from brand new.

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #3 – Unstable WiFi

Another problem users have been reporting with iOS 14 is unstable WiFi. Sometimes, unable to connect at all. It is said that putting the phone into sleep mode, or locking it, can cause the WiFi to disconnect. You can fix this common problem by making sure you have the latest patches installed.

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #4 – Poor Battery Life

iPhones are notorious for their battery life issues, especially when using demanding apps and games. Some users have been reporting that since installing the iOS 14 update, the battery life has taken a massive blow, with one Twitter user reporting drops as drastic as 93% down to 3% in one hour.

You may be thinking you’ve heard of this problem before, and you would be right. This issue does occur often soon after installing new software updates. The reason is that much of the codes and systems that are in control of keeping your files and apps organised are rearranged and changed significantly and the device has to reorganize and reindex all of your data.

Fortunately, this issue should only last for approximately 24 to 48 hours, and then your device should be back to what you would normally expect to get from your battery life.

If you’re still having trouble with your device’s battery life after this period, check your settings. One of the main things to turn off will be ‘Automatic App Updates’. By turning this off, it stops apps from continuously running in the background and checking for new updates and notifications and will save you a lot of battery in the long run.

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #5 – Typing Lag

This one is more annoying than outright phone-breaking. Many users have reported that their text is very slow to appear when they’re typing out messages, meaning it is harder to pick up on errors along the way.

Fortunately, updating your phone to iOS 14.4 or higher should rectify this problem but if not, there is a quick-fix you can do yourself.

Simply go to your Settings, then General, then Reset, then Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

It may not be a permanent fix however, and it is recommended to update to the latest version of iOS 14 as soon as possible.

iOS 14 Common Problems and How To Fix #6 – Text Notifications Not Appearing

Text notifications not appearing can be incredibly annoying and worst, could cause serious issues in communication if its something important. It’s sad that this was a thing in the first place, but like common problem #5, this issue appears to have been fixed in an update.

If you find you’re still having this problem, go to your settings and make sure to download the latest iOS update.
