Apple AirPods are among the best earbuds you can buy on the market. But, do they actually work on Android? Let’s find out!
Back in 2016, Apple made waves when it announced the AirPods, the company’s first wireless pair of earbuds. The release of AirPods marked the end of the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack on an iPhone. Apple’s move was met with a lot of controversies, but the fact that the whole industry is now following suit.
The original AirPods stand out thanks to its stunning design and Siri integration. Apple has never specified how many AirPods units have been sold so far, but we are expecting an estimate of around 20 million.
In March 2019, Apple announced the second-generation AirPods after months of leaks. The new AirPods do not bring about a redesign, but there are a lot of new techs under the hood like H1 wireless chip, wireless charging case, and hands-free voice-activated Hey Siri.
Connecting has never been easier
In Apple fashion, the new AirPods works perfectly with Apple devices out there as you simply need to flip open the lid and push down on the Connect button on the back of the case. That’s so simple. The coolest part is that you can instantly switch between Apple devices, something you cannot do with other Bluetooth earbuds out there.
You may be wondering whether your AirPods work with Android or not. Basically, AirPods are a Bluetooth pair of earbuds, so they work with any other Bluetooth-enabled devices out there, but there are some comprises when it comes to pairing your AirPods with Android.

In the section below, we will walk you through the steps on how to use AirPods with Android. Before we proceed, make sure you put your AirPods back in the charging case and both are sufficiently charged.
How to use AirPods with Android
You first need to enable Bluetooth on your Android device. To do this, open the Settings on your Android, then choose Bluetooth and turn on the switch.
Step one: Now simply flip open the AirPods charging case.
Step two: Press and hold on the Connect on the back of the charging case until the light flashes.
Step three: Select Pair on your Android and you are good to good.
From now on, you can listen to music, audio, and podcasts using AirPods on your Android. However, keep in mind that AirPods are tied to the Apple ecosystem, meaning that some of AirPods features will not work with Android.
In reality, voice-activated Hey Siri for the AirPods 2 will not be available on Android. Hey Siri is one of the biggest additions to the next generation AirPods, allowing you to trigger Siri hands-free. Plus, other things like auto-pausing will not work on Android.
Wrapping Up
The AirPods are an amazing pair of earbuds on the market. Despite some restrictions, they still offer a great experience on Android. To be honest, as an iPhone user, I am glad about what the AirPods can do on an Android. However, if you now an Android fan who relies on your device for work and daily tasks, then grab the Galaxy Buds instead.
The Galaxy Buds are cheaper and fully functional when paired to an Android device. If you are still confused between the Apple AirPods and Samsung Galaxy Buds, check out our article from here.
