How to Update Your AirPods Pro Firmware

Every AirPods fan will probably want to get the latest firmware update for their headphones as soon as it releases . This time, it brings a new feature that was introduced back in June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. Although the AirPods update process is indirect, we can still guide you through it. Read on to know how to update your AirPods Pro firmware.

What is New in the Update?

Apple just released the new AirPods Pro update in September, including the firmware upgrade from version 2C54 or 2B588 to 2D15.

Generally, Apple did not make any release notes for this type of update so we don’t know much about changes in this version. But, it has a special feature called Spatial Audio.

Basically, the Spatial Audio makes AirPods Pro audio more like a surround sound speaker that significantly improves your music experience. By using a dynamic head tracker, your AirPods Pro can remap the sound field constantly as your head moves around. Also, some users review that it does offer a theater-like surround-sound experience after installing the new firmware.

Note that iOS 14 is required to use this new feature. And, Apple says it only supports iPhone 7 and newer models.

On top of that, the new AirPods Pro update (3A283) also brings automatic audio switching feature. This means users don’t have to manually switch between these models anymore.

In addition, there’s no information about firmware updates for the original AirPods or AirPods 2. Therefore, the Spatial Audio is exclusively available for AirPods Pro.

How to Update AirPods Pro

Unfortunately, AirPods updates tend to happen secretly and automatically. So, basically, there is no way you can update the firmware at will. Moreover, it isn’t easy for you to know if a new firmware version has been installed because there is no notification.

The best you can do to request an update is to put your AirPods Pro in their case. And, the iPhone that they are connecting with needs to be close by. After that, charge your AirPods and start waiting.

Well, this is usually a problem for people who want the latest update immediately. For others, we recommend just using your AirPods Pro as usual. The update will be installed without you having to do a thing.
