Here is how to resize a photo on your Mac

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your email with photo attachments get stuck in outbox because your photo is too large? If you have, we have to say that you are not the only one experiencing the issue. Luckily, on the Mac, there is a built-in application called Preview that allows you to resize your photos, making them better fit into a document, email or webpage.

If you are using a Mac, and you are struggling to send a large image via email or insert an image into your document, you can use the Preview app to get the job done. The coolest thing is that the Preview app is available on all versions of MacOS  and MacOS X, so we recommend that you make the most of the app.

Note that the below-mentioned step-by-step instructions aim to resize a single picture file. If you want to resize multiple images, you can skip this guide.

How to resize a photo on Mac

In this tutorial, we will detail on how to resize a photo from a very large wide resolution to a smaller resolution, making it much easier for you to send via email or for many other purposes. Here is how you do it.

Step one: First and foremost, you need to locate the picture you want to resize in the Mac file system.

Step two: Once you have your own picture, open it into Preview on Mac. Note that Preview is your default image viewer on Mac. If you don’t know how to launch your picture into Preview, you simply double-click that picture in Finder.

Step three: Next up, pull down the Tools menu and select “Adjust Size” from the drop-down menu.

Step four: From the the ‘Image Dimensions’ screen, you can choose your own width and height. Make sure that you have checked box next to the “Scale proportionally” option before proceed with clicking “Ok”.

Step five: When it is done, your image will be resized to the resolution dimensions you chose. If you are not satisfied with your new dimensions, go back to the previous step and resize your picture again.

Step six: Once you are satisfied, you can save it by clicking “Save As” from the File menu.

Step seven: If you choose “Save As”, you can pick a new file name and choose a file destination, select format and click on Save button

Once you are done, your file will be saved to your file destination chosen in the previous step. Remember that you can both increase and decrease your photo file using Preview.
