How to change Safari’s default search engine for iPhone and Mac

Before now, one of the most annoying things was that you could not change default search engine in Safari for your iPhone, iPad or MacOS X, which was a little disappointing. Luckily, in iOS 9, there is a setting that allows you to select your preferred search engine in Safari for your iPhone, iPad or Mac OS X. For example, if you don’t want to use Google Search as Safari’s default search engine, you can easily change it to Yahoo, Bing or DuckDuckGo.

1. Change Safari’s default search engine for iPhone and iPad

If you now are using an iPhone or iPad, and you are tired of using your current Safari’s search engine, you can easily change using the following steps:

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your home screen.

Step 2: Scroll down to Safari and tap on it.

Step 3: Select Search Engine under the Search heading.

Step 4: In the Search Engine, select your preferred search engine. In iOS 9, Safari supports four search engines including Bing, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo.

From now on, every time you type in a search term, you will see a suggested search terms from your preferred search engine.

To choose your favorite  search engine that appear every time you tap Safari’s search field, you can head to Settings, tap Safari and select Favorites.

2. Change Safari’s default search engine in Safari for Mac

Step 1: Launch Safari on your Mac

Step 2: In the Safari menu, choose Preferences, and click the Search bar.

Step 3: Click the box next to Search Engine to display the pop-up menu and select your preferred search tool.

In fact, there is simpler way you can use to change Safari’s default search engine for Mac without opening Preferences. Firstly, you need to open Safari app on your Mac, then click the magnifying glass and you will see four available search engines options in a drop-down list, and select your preferred search tool.

In the drop-down list, you will see a checkmark that is located next to a search engine indicating that it is your default.
