iOS 12 has been through several software updates since its official release, making it better and smarter. Apple just released iOS 12.3 following seven weeks of beta testing. This is the third major iOS 12 software update that focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements. This update also includes AirPlay 2 support for AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs, meaning that you can screen-mirror from your iPhone to a Samsung-branded smart TV.

There are also other big features in iOS 12.3 you may not know about. With that in mind, we made a list of the best iOS 12.3 features you need to check out.

Sign up for a service through Apple TV

The new Apple TV app is finally here after the unveiling event back in March. The TV app is now smarter, better, and more visually appealing. The new app now includes Channels; a cool feature that lets you subscribe to a service within the TV app. This means that there is no need for a new account or a visit to a third-party website.

Apple says that Apple TV app will include support for popular services like HBO, Cinemax, ShowTime, Starz, and CBS Access with more to follow in the coming months. The coolest part is that you can download HBO content for offline viewing on your iPhone and iPad. This is something you cannot do in HBO Go or HBO Now.

A redesigned Apple TV app

The Apple TV app also got a UI revamp with floating capsules. Apple also removed the sidebar from its app to make scrolling much easier. There is now a Watch Now section where you can find everything you might be interested in.

Siri is now better and smarter. All you need to do now is to say “Siri, show me what’s up next” and you will be taken to a new portal that includes movies and shows you have been watching recently.

Card View
Card view gets a revamp with everything you need

From now on, click on a thumbnail and you get a new card view with all the details. Simply swipe left or right to switch between different cards. This is a small change but comes in handy. You can even play the trailers in the card view, which is much like Netflix. To be honest, it’s great to see all of these animations and details in the Apple TV app.

The release of the new TV app paves the way for the Apple TV Plus, an upcoming video streaming service that will compete with Netflix. Apple has been in talks with content providers on the market to bring more 4K content to its service.

Apple Pay support in Apple apps

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service that allows users to make payments at supported terminals and online stores using their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Apple Pay is now accepted at millions of retailers and financial institutions worldwide.

The new iOS 12.3 update now lets iPhone and iPad owners use Apple Pay to make purchases in Apple Store, iTunes, Books, Apple Music, and even more. This eliminates the need for your credit card and other billing details.

To use Apple Pay in Apple’s own services, you first need to add Apple Pay as your primary payment method. You can do this by navigating to Settings > iTunes & App Store, then select your Apple ID email > View Apple ID > Manage Payments > Add Payment Method.

AirPlay 2 support for third-party TVs

Apple has been expanding AirPlay 2 to more smart TVs in recent months. The Cupertino firm confirmed that AirPlay 2 will come to modern Samsung smart TVs this year, meaning that you can share your videos, pictures, and music from your iPhone to a smart TV. Apple also says that Sony and LG smart TVs will get the same treatment later this year.

However, you will not be getting the same experience on a non-Apple device as there are some restrictions. Sources say that Apple has been working on a new TV app for non-Apple devices. It’s too early to tell what it will look like, we have to wait and see.

“For You” suggestions in Apple Music is now better

Apple Music is one of the most used music-streaming services out there with more than 56 million paying subscribers. However, one major problem I have with Apple Music is that its “For You” tab is updated once a day only. Luckily, in iOS 12.3, your music recommendations are updated multiple times a day so you can keep up with the latest happenings in the music industry.
