Apple iPhone 2020: 8 Key Differences You Should Know

After months of waiting, Apple finally introduced its 2020 iPhone lineup in the Hi, Speed event. The new lineup includes 4 models: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 12 Mini. This is also the first time that Apple released 4 phones at the same time. These phones share several same features but they also have their unique traits as well. So, what’s different between Apple iPhone 2020 models? Let’s find out in the section below.

Price

Apple iPhone 2020 comes in various pricing tiers. This is apparently one of the biggest differences between the 4 models. According to Apple, the mini version starts at $729, while the standard iPhone 12 model is priced at $829. If you are planning to grab the Pro models, then you are looking at $ 1,029 and $1,129. Colors and Build

This is an ever-present difference between the iPhone 12/12 mini and its Pro siblings. The iPhone 12 and the Mini come in more colors but come with a bit less quality. Specifically, these phones come with 5 eye-catching color options: Product (RED), White, Blue, Green, and Black. However, their bezels are made from aluminum.

Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro Max versions come in 4 colors: Graphite, Gold, Silver, and the brand new Pacific Blue. The duo bezels are made of stainless steel, which brings a more premium feeling to users.

iPhone 12 Differences

Differences in Screen Size

Last year, Apple’s affordable iPhone had a 6.1-inch display. However, the iPhone 12 lineup comes with two affordable models this year: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini and the 6.1-inch iPhone 12. On the other hand, the Pro and Pro Max versions have their screen sizes of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches respectively. It is easy to notice that the screens on the Pro duo this year are quite larger than their predecessors.

On top of that, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro share the same screen resolution, while the mini and Pro Max have different resolutions due to their different sizes. The displays of all these models also support Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. However, the Super Retina XDR display on the 12/12 mini can reach up to 625 nits in terms of maximum brightness while its counterpart on the Pro/Pro Max support up to 800 nits of brightness

Differences in Cameras

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini feature a dual-camera setup while their Pro brothers feature a triple-camera cluster. All the models share the same primary ultra-wide-angle camera, but the Pro and Pro Max get a telephoto sensor. The iPhone 12 Pro Max uses an improved telephoto sensor that offers up to 2.5x optical zoom. This allows for up to 12x digital zoom and better low-light photography.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the only model that is equipped with a 12MP primary sensor with sensor shift stabilization and large 1.7um pixels. This allows the sensor to absorb more light and it is even better than the f / 1.6 aperture of the main 12MP camera on the other models. According to Apple, this feature allows users to take long exposure shots without any unwanted blurring. This will allow iPhone 12 Pro Max users to take significantly better low-light photos when compared to the other models.

LiDAR Scanner

The Pro and Pro Max versions come with a LiDAR scanner on the back.  Apple also equipped this scanner on the new iPad Air. This feature will provide a better AR experience for users. And yet, it also offers a big support in photography by providing faster and more precise focusing, especially in low-light environments.

ProRAW

Apple will launch a new ProRAW image format exclusively to the Pro models later this year. Users will take advantage of Apple’s Smart HDR3 and Deep Fusion processing while having a full creative control over exposure, color, and white balance directly in the Photos app.

Better Battery life on iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 series and the Pro models are expected to have a similar battery life with 17 hours of video playback, and 65 hours of music playback. The Pro Max model, thanks to its larger size, will come with a higher capacity battery. It is believed to be able to play videos for 20 hours and play music for 80 hours. Likewise, the iPhone 12 mini with a compact design has a smaller battery life when compared to its siblings. But, it can offer up to 15 hours of video playback.

Differences in Storage

Instead of having to share the same base storage like the previous iPhone generations, there is a difference in minimum storage this year.  Apple equips the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max with a minimum of 128GB of internal storage, while the other two get 64 GB for the entry-level models.

Now you get all the differences between the new iPhone 12 lineup models. Basically, the main differences lie in the cameras and screen sizes. You will get the same user experience on all iPhone models. Choosing which one is right for you comes down to personal preferences.
